Somewhere Over There

Somewhere Over There is certainly one of the top go-to trails in Squamish. A total of 267m of elevation are lost over its 1.8 km length. The trail has a mix of everything, including slab and rock rolls, roots, plenty of wood features, and some uphill. If you’re looking for a trail with variety, look no further.

The upper section begins with an optional roll down a granite slab. Immediately after, the trail becomes fast and flowy with a mix of rocks and roots while meandering down through the forest. This section is broken up by the longest ladder bridge in Squamish. This bridge winds around standing trees on a very gentle uphill before slowly descending to a short rock roll. After the roll, the bridge continues with a series of speed bumps, then snakes from one side to the next, and ends with two banked turns.

The trail becomes noticeably rockier and begins with a non-optional rock roll.  Soon after, you’ll be grinning ear-to-ear after getting some air time off a bump along a smooth and fast section. Shortly afterward, the trail splits – keep left for the easy route, or turn right and pick one of the two slab rolls ahead. More rolls follow further along the main route, including a slab connected with two short ladder bridges. A panty line route is available to the right of the slab.

The final section of the trail begins with an uphill. Some scrambly turns over loose stones and a sharp roll make for a tricky end to the following descent. The trail ends on a logging road but a minute-long extension continues off the road ahead on the right.

Somewhere Over There can be accessed from the top of Bonsai. Unless you feel like pedaling hard from Valleycliffe up the entire FSR to Bonsai, the best way to access SOT is by taking either Power Hoods and heading toward Hoods in the Woods to Bonsai, or by riding the upper half of Powerhouse Plunge and turning right onto the FSR. Once you have climbed up to the fork in the road between Hoods in the Woods to your right and Bonsai ahead and to your left, either route along Bonsai leads to the top of SOT.

After finishing SOT, turn left on the gravel road at the very end to reach Valleycliffe, or turn right and take your first left at the top of the hill to reach Garibaldi Park Rd below Quest University.
