It is no surprise that so many riders keep going back to Rupert. Trail builder, Gary McFarlane and his crew have made this trail a work of art, building interesting features that seamlessly connect with the area’s natural features. Gary made this trail a memorial to his dog, Rupert, who passed away a few years ago.
If you are looking for a very fast advanced ride with lots of granite slabs, this trail is just waiting for you. From the Rupert sign, there is a total of 91 metres of descending over the 1 km long trail. Fast sections are broken up nicely with some short climbs that steer you through the best line of the area. For less advanced riders, there are 3 ‘chicken routes’ available that avoid some of the more difficult rock rolls. Just look for the rubber chickens to guide you around. Be warned, however, that these chicken routes aren’t exactly easy. Also, one of the granite rolls along the main trail is non-optional. If you need to, stop and check each out before attempting to ride them. Tazer’s Alternate, a short secondary route of intermediate difficulty, can be used to bypass the first downhill section of Rupert that has a cascading series of granite rolls. The entrance to Tazer’s is just around the corner after the Rupert sign.
To access Rupert, follow the connector trail from the top of 50 More Shades of Green towards Entrails. The entrance to Rupert will be on your left, beginning with a short uphill to the Rupert sign. The trail ends on Mashiter, where you can turn right to head towards Rollercoaster, or turn left towards Tracks From Hell and ride it all over again.
