Fred is an intermediate single-track of a 1km length that is host to several local toonie races. It is moderately technical, with a good mix of wooden bridges, uphill and downhill ramps, roots, rock, and short punchy uphills, that make it a challenge to maintain a fast and steady rhythm. Keep left toward the end of the trail to connect directly to the entrance of Tinder. If Fred-Tinder-Your Mom isn’t on your agenda, keep right at the junction to direct you towards the top of Word of Mouth or Lower Powersmart.
Logging has cleared a small section of trail that now dissects the upper entrance from the majority of the trail. The upper entrance is ideal if you are approaching from the Diamond Head area, accessing Fred using George’s Crossing. From the top, it will only take seconds before you exit the forest onto a logging road. Turn left and the entrance to the remainder of the trail will be on your right. This entrance is ideal for those coming along Northside Connector from the junction of Rob’s Corners and Cliff’s Corners. If you are approaching from this direction, make sure to take your first left after passing the entrance to Lower Powersmart.
